Drowning Prevention: How to Keep Kids Safe in the Water

Drowning happens when a child damages their lungs from inhaling too much water. This can happen up to 24 hours after swimming or even bathing.
Symptoms To Watch For:
- Cough
- Confusion or unusual behavior
- Fatigue
- Vomiting
- Fast breathing or difficulty breathing
Best Practices for Near Water
- Swim lessons for parents and toddlers are a first step for water safety.
- Never leave children unsupervised, including in a baby pool or bathtub.
- Keep children within arm’s length while they are in water.
- Only swim in water that has lifeguards.
Seek Medical Help
