Beginning January of 2021, CMS required hospitals to post the payer specific negotiated charges for a list of the top 300 shoppable services, or provide patients with a price estimator tool. UH has chosen to provide patients with a hospital price estimation tool.

Machine Readable Files

Pursuant to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) price transparency rule 45 CFR part 180, we are publishing this machine readable file (MRF). The MRF is not intended to be a resource to assist patients in understanding the costs of care and their potential out of pocket expenses.

For resources to assist patients in understanding the cost of care and their potential out of pocket expenses, University Hospitals makes available to its patients a number of other resources for cost estimates of its health care services. Patients are encouraged to call UH Financial Counseling Services (1-866-771-7266; Monday–Friday 8am – 4:30pm) and/or to use the Hospital Price Estimator Tool (https://uhhospitals.patientsimple.com/guest/#/estimates/patientestimate#1) for free individualized estimates based on your personal health insurance and benefits.

1. For inpatient services, the payer negotiated charges are based on the Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) payment system. For outpatient services, the payer negotiated charges are based on the principal service category.
2. If “N/A” appears in the payer negotiated charge field, this is due to the item being included into the DRG or the principal service.
3. We have not established a separate “facility fee” standard charge for patients to use the facility in addition to service-based charges set forth in the Machine Readable File.”
4. Calculations on claims where a payer is secondary have been excluded.
