Comprehensive Efforts Drive Pediatric Sleep Research
Our multi-disciplinary team of specialists treats a full spectrum of childhood sleep disorders, from the most common to the complex, using state-of-the-art scientific approaches. They are breaking new ground with leading-edge research at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s and in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Throughout the years, our comprehensive approach to sleep medicine and research has elevated the standard of care for children with snoring and other sleep issues in Ohio and around the globe. We are consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Children’s Hospital in Pulmonology – the specialty practiced by some of our pediatric sleep medicine experts.
The proximity of pediatric sleep specialists at UH Rainbow, including sleep medicine specialists, clinical sleep psychologists, pulmonary sleep specialists, and sleep technicians, fuels the teamwork and innovation necessary for advancing research and care, to ultimately help children attain quality sleep.
Research at UH Rainbow has led to advancements in sleep disordered breathing, hypersomnia, narcolepsy and other sleep disorders. We were part of, and published on, the Early Onset Narcolepsy group that noted the increased incidence of narcolepsy in the USA during the H1N1 outbreak. We were also part of the national CHAT and PATS trials, investigating the treatment of sleep disordered breathing in children. Partnering with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has helped to develop a better understanding and treatment for sleep disordered breathing and sleep apnea, especially in special populations, such as those with special needs (e.g., Down Syndrome) or other disease (e.g. sickle cell, cystic fibrosis). Many of our sleep experts are on national panels that help make decisions on standards of care and guide other clinicians in the nation.
