Our residency program delivers both a rigorous and rewarding training program for aspiring family physicians. Our three-year program combines inpatient and outpatient experiences, providing a diverse and rich experience for our residents. Our curriculum allows for flexibility, giving each resident the opportunity to tailor their training to their future practice. We commit to not only provide excellent and compassionate care to our patients but also take care of one another by providing our residents with resources, support and ample time to live their lives outside of residency. We pride ourselves on the strong relationships and supportive environment that our residents have with faculty, nursing, staff, and residents of other specialties here at UH St. John Medical Center.

As a former graduate of this program, I can attest to the dedication of the faculty and staff to its residents. As part of the University Hospitals Community Consortium, our residents are exposed to additional teaching environments and benefit from relationships with residents outside of our home hospital.

About the Program

The Family Medicine Residency program is accredited through the ACGME.

Our residents benefit from a flexible curriculum and work-life balance. We offer several resident wellness opportunities, including social events, chair massages, therapy dogs, stress management resiliency training, UH well-being incentive program, and an employee assistance program.

We strive to provide residents with a high degree of exposure to procedures throughout their training including dermatologic, orthopedic, gynecological, and osteopathic manipulative procedures. Additionally, residents will graduate with a high conversance in health systems management, including leadership training and practice management, as well as competency in patient care and population health.

Our program wants to see our residents and graduates thrive as professionals and as people. In our collegial and supportive environment, program faculty and administration take the time to get to know residents in order to help them succeed in their long-term goals.

Program graduates have 100% ABFM Board passage rate. Graduates of our program have established successful practices in the Cleveland area and nationwide, and those that choose to pursue fellowship have secured positions in various subspecialties.

Our Locations

Our state-of-the-art Family Medicine Practice has 14 exam rooms and a separate testing room. There is also a radiology suite, lab, concierge services and urgent care on the premises, which allows our patients to receive quality and convenient care under one roof.

In addition to weekly schedules at the Family Medicine Practice site, our residents visit nursing home patients in the area on a monthly basis.

Our Family Medicine residents can also be found teaching at health fairs, local schools, senior centers, and other community events throughout the Northeast Ohio community.
