Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship
Dear Colleague:
Thank you for visiting our site to learn more about the fellowship training program in pediatric critical care medicine. Our goal is to support our fellows’ transition to productive and satisfying careers as academic clinician educators and physician scientists. The core curriculum of the program ensures the attainment of full competency in the care of the critically ill child and the development of meaningful scholarly activity.
The Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is a three-year ACGME accredited program with availability for nine fellows. Our 20-bed PICU has approximately 1,700 admissions/year and is within a nationally ranked pediatric hospital that serves as the quaternary referral center for the region. UH Rainbow also has the only accredited Pediatric Trauma Center in the region.
A full range of pediatric medical and surgical cases will be cared for by the fellow and the ICU team, including cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, bone marrow transplant, renal transplant, and patients requiring technologies such as extra-corporeal life support, ventricular assist device, bedside ultrasound, continuous veno-venous hemofiltration and other renal replacement therapies and state of the art ventilator strategies.
The Division of Pediatric Critical Care also staffs a busy sedation unit which provides sedation services to approximately 2,200 children per year.
Fellows develop a research focus from a broad range of scholarly activities including clinical, basic or translational science, administration and advocacy, medical education, international health/disaster management and medical ethics. Fellows are encouraged to identify an area of genuine interest in order to develop an area of expertise within the field of critical care.
We invite you to look at the information provided on this website and encourage you to contact us for any further inquiries. We are pleased you have chosen to consider training in pediatric critical care at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Steven Shein, MD, Program Director
Michael Mount, MD, Associate Program Director
Andrea Scioscia, MD, Associate Program Director
