Public and Community Psychiatry Fellowship Application Requirements

The Public and Community Psychiatry Fellowship program is open to psychiatrists and psychiatric advanced practice nurses who plan to pursue careers in community psychiatry.

Requirements for Physician Applicants (MD/DO)

  • At least three years of ACGME psychiatry residency training completed by the start of the fellowship
  • Passage of USMLE Step 3/COMLEX Level 3 prior to the start of the fellowship
  • Active medical license in the state they will be seeing patients
    • Does not have to be an Ohio license if not working clinically in Ohio
    • Training certificates (or analogous restricted licenses in other states) are sufficient for trainees
  • At least one full day (eight clinical hours) of work already scheduled in a community setting, defined as CMHC/FQHC, inpatient, state hospital, VA, ED, or other settings that primarily serve the Medicaid/publicly insured/uninsured population.

Requirements for Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurse Applicants

  • At least three years of clinical practice post-graduation completed by the start of the fellowship
  • Active nursing license in the state they will be seeing patients
  • At least one full day (eight clinical hours) of work already scheduled in a community setting, as defined above

Application Requirements

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Personal statement of professional goals and how participation in the fellowship will help prospective fellow achieve them
  • Three letters of recommendation
    • For independent practitioners, one letter should be from their direct or indirect supervisor
    • For trainees, one letter should be from their current training director
    • For UH residents, only one letter of recommendation is required
  • Interview with fellowship director, with other core faculty in attendance as available
  • Deadline for applications is June 1st for training year starting the following July 1st
