Global Health Fellowship in OB/GYN Reaches All Aspects of Global Health
The Global Health Fellowship Program is an important component of the WONDOOR global health initiative. Fellows are exposed to the healthcare structures of other countries, learning about the economic influences on healthcare for women, as well as humanitarian rights, ethics and more. The Global Health Fellowship is a two-year post-graduate program that is available through University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.
Clinical Duties for WONDOOR Global Health Fellowship
The post-graduate fellowship program includes an 18 month rotation as an OB/GYN attending at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation in Georgetown, Guyana. Specific duties include:
- Clinical duties as an OB/GYN generalist
- Clinical supervision and teaching of OB/GYN residents (Guyanese and visiting residents from University Hospitals)
- Focusing on HIV care of women
- Pursuing a research initiative focusing on the health challenges of the women in Guyana
With the remaining 6 months of the program, this global health fellowship program provides work in clinics that serve low-resource communities in the U.S. In addition, each fellow will teach global health education classes at University Hospitals.
WONDOOR Global Health Mission
As part of the WONDOOR Global Health initiative, University Hospitals sends physicians to the program’s partner countries, both to instruct and train, but also to experience the healthcare challenges being faced in these low-resource communities.
