Conferences

The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension provides a rich variety of lectures and conferences for fellows as they continue through the educational process.

National and Regional Nephrology Fellowship Conferences

Fellows enjoy time together at several national and regional conferences where they are able to meet and connect with division alumni from around the country.

Summer Core Curriculum

Schedule: Weekly (July-August)
A summer core nephrology curriculum is provided at the beginning of each academic year. This two-month curriculum is intended to provide fundamental practical concepts in various topics in nephrology early in the training program. It allows the accelerated acquisition of core knowledge required for diagnosis and management both in outpatient and inpatient settings. Topics include material relevant to the emergency care of the renal patient and renal replacement therapies.

Core Curriculum Conference Series

Schedule: Weekly, (rest of the year, spanning over two years)
This is a series of conferences in the following formats: formal presentation of a topic and journal club format. Landmark publications relevant to the topic are distributed to fellows in advance for review and roundtable discussion.

Journal Club

Schedule: Monthly
The purpose of Journal Club is to develop the ability to critically analyze data reported in the literature. In general, papers are presented and discussed from high-quality clinical journals (NEJM, Kidney International, J Am Soc Neph, Ann Int Med, Lancet, Transplantation) and basic science journals (Nature, J Biol Chem, Cell, Science, Proc Natl Acad Sci, J Clin Invest, Am J Physiol).

Research Conference

Schedule: every other month
The purpose of this conference is to expose fellows to a variety of basic science, clinical and translational research. This conference also provides fellows with another source of instruction in aspects of biostatistics, study design and research methodology. Fellows are encouraged to present their own research, providing them with the experience of presenting their data and receiving feedback about their project.
