Pediatric Pain Management Services
The Pediatric Pain Service at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital provides pain management for hospitalized children who are experiencing pain from injury, illness or surgery.
The Pediatric Pain Service team may be called in at the request of your child’s physician, or if your child’s pain scores indicate the need for further pain management. Our experts work with the patient, parents/caregivers, and other relevant healthcare team members to create individualized care plans for effective pain management. An individualized care plan includes assessment of pain, treatment interventions and evaluation of interventions, as well as strategies for altering the plan if pain relief is not adequate. Effective pain management has been shown to speed up the healing process, improve appetite, decrease stress and reduce the time needed for hospitalization.
The Pediatric Pain Service team includes pediatric anesthesiologist Tiffany Frazee, MD, pediatric critical care specialist and Pediatric Pain Service Medical Director Anne Stormorken, MD, certified nurse practitioners Jenessa Thirion and Carrie Williams, and program coordinator Susan Thomas.
Our team’s specialized pediatric pain management expertise is available 24/7, 365 days a year to provide consultation and therapy for pediatric patients within the hospital. This service is not a self-referral program but is available at the request of your child’s physician. Parents should talk to their child’s hospital care team if they are concerned about the level of pain their child is experiencing.
