Advancing Care Through Leading Edge Urology Research
Medicine is continuously advancing, and University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s is a leader in research discovery across a variety of specialties. Our board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatricatric urology physicians and multidisciplinary team of experts are no exception. We continuously strive to better understand bladder and kidney disorders and discover better ways of preventing and treating pediatric urology conditions. As a large academic medical center, we regularly identify opportunities to provide our patients with the option to participate in clinical trials and have access to the latest medical advances. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to continue to raise the standard of pediatric urology care and improve the outlook for patients everywhere.
Improving Outcomes for Children with Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer in young men. Our pediatric urology team recently participated in the conception and design of a national study to look at the optimal treatment for pediatric patients with malignant germ cell tumors (MGCTs), including testicular cancer.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of reducing the administration of cisplatin, etoposide and bleomycin (PEb) from four to three cycles and compressing the timeframe from five to three days per cycle as part of chemotherapy treatment. Researchers recommended keeping the industry standard at four cycles when PEb is used in the treatment of MGCTs in children, confirming industry best practices for optimal outcomes.
Opening Doors to New Discovery
UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s pediatric specialists are continuously seeking new opportunities to advance research and scientific innovation. It is our mission to engage with initiatives that can substantially change the dynamic of pediatric urology care and improve the lives of patients and families.
