Transitional Year

Transitional Year Program at UH Geauga Medical Center

Thanks for your interest in our Transitional Year program!

As a brief summary, we have ACGME initial accreditation and are one of the programs in the UHCC (UH Community Consortium) that is part of the GME system at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

UHCC is currently evaluating the best way to educate all of our residents. Our MD candidates will have the opportunity to learn additional Osteopathic Principles and Practice. This includes weekly didactics, monthly UHCC conferences, Osteopathic reading materials, Osteopathic research projects, and development and use of manipulative medicine skills to help treat patients. The osteopathic philosophy embraces the idea of the union of structure and function through four principles that the intern will learn and apply to their patient care practices.

Transitional Year Core Rotations

The design of our Transitional Year program provides a foundation for any future training program, while customizing the curriculum to meet the needs of each participant. Interns will experience core rotations in:

  • Emergency Medicine
  • Family Medicine
  • Internal Medicine
  • Surgery

Elective experiences are designed to assist the intern in meeting future career goals. Rotation experiences are enhanced by the diversity of training in urban, suburban and rural locations within the University Hospitals system.

Benefits of a Transitional Year program

A varying, limited number of interns are accepted into this program. Osteopathic physicians entering into ACGME Transitional Year positions at UH Geauga Medical Center will experience:

  • A flexible, customized curriculum utilizing multiple UH system sites for maximized clinical exposure
  • Optimum preparation for a primary care or specialty career choice and training – at University Hospitals or at any facility in the United States.
