Saturday, 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m
Sundays and Holidays: Closed - Telephone Advice

If you are not sure if your child needs to be seen or you would like some medical advice on how to care for things at home, give one of our nurses a call. Our calls are carefully screened by a specially trained medical professional who can make responsible decisions about your child’s condition. They can safely determine when children need to be seen by a doctor and how to provide home care. In some situations, they may recommend that you bring your child to the office for a visit or may have your physician call you back about your concern.
We are happy to provide you with the health information you need to be the best parent you can be. Appointments are often encouraged for concerns about behavior, sleep, learning development, and chronic disease, as they often require more than brief discussion. If you believe brief phone contact is all that is needed, please place calls to your physician about non-urgent behavior issues, follow-up of chronic problems, or other well-child questions during weekday office hours. We will return these calls as soon as we are able, occasionally one to two business days after your call.
- Forms & Form Policies
-
We strive to complete forms that are required for school, camp, sports, jobs, etc. as soon as possible, but due to the volume of forms we receive and our focus on immediate health needs of our patients, we require three (3) business days to complete them. Most forms have sections to be completed by the guardian and/or patient, and this information must be completed before we can accept the form, and the patient must be up-to-date on recommended check-ups. The chart is reviewed by one of the medical staff, and often by your physician, before a form can be completed. Your form can be held for pickup, faxed, or mailed if a self-addressed, stamped envelope is provided. If you require your form faster than 3 business days there is a $10 fee.
UH Rainbow Green Road Pediatrics Office Forms:
- Forms must be completely filled in by the parent, including exact name of medications on the bottle and form, ie: pill, liquid, and dosage.
- If your child is seen by a specialist, please have the specialist sign the forms.

- After Hours/Emergency Calls
-
After office hours, call us for emergencies or urgent problems that cannot wait until morning. Calls about mild illnesses can usually wait. We need to keep our line open at night for urgent calls.
After office hours, you need to call 216-844-6638, which will be answered by an answering service and the message paged to the medical professional on call. The nurse or doctor will usually return your call within 15 minutes. If you do not receive a callback within one hour in a non-emergency situation, please call again.
Other sources of medical information include the American Academy of Pediatrics website and your pharmacist (especially for drug dosages).
We do expect to be called before you seek medical attention elsewhere, including at an emergency room or urgent care center. Often we are able to prevent unnecessary visits, but we are happy to make referrals to specific medical centers when we deem them necessary. Please be aware of additional policies regarding referrals in your individual health insurance plan.
Emergency Calls (day or night)
- Call 9-1-1 (emergency medical services) for life-threatening emergencies in which your child may require resuscitation (your child is not breathing, is choking, is unconscious, or is having seizures, for example).
- Call our office at 216-382-3800 for minor emergencies such as dehydration, difficulty breathing, wounds that need suturing, or fractures. When you call in, always state clearly, “This is an emergency.”
- For poisonings, call the poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
- Sick Visits
-
We try to keep appointments open during the last hour of the day for sick children who need to be seen after school or day care. Make sure your babysitter or day care center understands you should be called before 3 p.m. if your child becomes ill. If you think your child may need to be seen the same day, please call us as soon as you are able. If your child improves before the appointment or you are unable to come at the time you are scheduled, please call and let us know. There is a $25 fee if you do not show up for your appointment.
- Acute Care of Injuries (including cuts, concern of bony injury, and concussions)
-
We can often help you avoid an emergency room visit. Please call if your child is injured so that we can help determine a proper plan of action.
- Well Child Visits/Sports Physical
-
Please try to plan ahead and schedule your child’s routine and/or sports physical a couple of months in advance, especially if you want it during the summertime. A good way to remember to schedule it is to routinely have your child come in around his birthday. If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please call our office at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a $25 fee being added to your account. When feasible we give courtesy reminders, but please do make yourself a note of your child’s upcoming appointment. Please inform our staff of any changes in your address, phone, or insurance coverage when you come in.

- Medical Ear Piercing
-
Dr. Joyce is pleased to offer ear piercing in our office for established patients in our practice.
Why get your child’s ears pierced by our doctor?
- We use only high quality titanium or medical plastic earrings that are extremely hypoallergenic, sterile, and safe. The risk of infection or skin reaction is extremely low.
- Our medical earrings require no twisting or manipulation once they are in place. Aftercare only includes simple cleansing, and clear directions are provided.
- Your piercing and aftercare instruction come from our experienced board certified physician Kelly Joyce, MD.
- We are specialists in treating infants and children. We provide a non-threatening and professional environment for what can be a stressful experience.
- We are comfortable piercing the ears of infants as young as 7 months, after they have received their primary series of vaccinations.
The fee for ear piercing is $108, and includes the visit and procedure, the starter earrings, and supply of sterile cleansing swabs for aftercare use. Several styles of earrings are available. Because we use an enclosed sterile piercing system, we can only use our earrings for the initial piercing. After 6 weeks, you may change to an earring of your choice at home.
Please call 216-382-3800 if you would like to schedule an appointment to have your child’s ears pierced or if you have additional questions.
