The UH Rainbow Division of Pediatric Surgery provides 24/7 coverage for elective and emergency surgical needs of children from birth to young adulthood. The comprehensive services include evaluation and management of the following conditions:
- Common pediatric surgical conditions such as hernias, hydroceles, undescended testes, and skin and soft tissue lesions
- Common pediatric surgical emergencies such as appendicitis, acute abdomen, bowel obstruction, pyloric stenosis, and intussusception.
- Congenital malformations like diaphragmatic hernia, developmental anomalies of the trachea, esophagus and lungs, abdominal wall defects, abnormalities of the intestinal rotation, fetal intestinal obstructions and atresias, ano-rectal anomalies, and various other developmental anomalies
- Gastroesophageal reflux, achalasia, and other swallowing disorders
- Comprehensive treatment for Hirschsprung’s disease and other pediatric colorectal abnormalities
- Surgical treatment of obstructive jaundice including biliary atresia
- General thoracic problems (not involving the heart) including pectus excavatum, lung resections, and esophageal disease
- Pediatric benign and malignant sold tumors, including neuroblastoma, Wilms’ tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, teratomas, liver tumors, and other neoplasms of the chest, abdomen, pelvis (including ovaries) and soft tissues
- Pediatric trauma
- Endocrinology problems involving the thyroid, parathyroid, thymus, adrenal and pancreas, pediatric gynecologic and ovarian lesions
Pediatric Surgery Clinics are located throughout the Cleveland region with easy and rapid access for patients. Procedural and diagnostic services are performed at UH Rainbow main campus in University Circle.
