November 26, 2016
Dear colleague,
We are delighted to introduce to you our new Chair for the Department of Surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center: Joseph F. Sabik III, MD. Joe, an accomplished surgeon and inspiring leader, also serves as Surgeon-in-Chief and Vice President for Surgical Operations for the UH system.
Joe is a world-renowned clinician and academic authority in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. His clinical areas of expertise include minimally invasive cardiac surgery, multi-arterial coronary artery bypass grafting, and heart valve repair and replacement surgery. At UH, he will dedicate half of his time to a robust heart surgical practice role within our Division of Cardiac Surgery, which is led by Division Chief Soon J. Park, MD.
Joe is widely published in leading professional journals and a frequent lecturer at national and international conferences. Most recently, he was co-principal investigator for the landmark EXCEL trial, which suggested that drug-eluting stents are an acceptable alternative to open-heart surgery for select patients with left main coronary artery disease. Results were published in the Oct. 31, 2016, issue of The New England Journal of Medicine.
Joe comes to UH from Cleveland Clinic. He joined the Clinic’s professional staff in 1996 and was appointed Chairman of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in 2008. Joe has performed more than 8,000 heart surgical procedures.
Our team of dedicated professionals works daily to provide the highest-quality care and best experience for our patients and their families. We are confident Joe’s clinical and leadership qualities will further benefit the healthcare professionals and patients who turn to UH for surgical services and consultations.
Dr. Sabik is available for patient appointments and surgery at UH Cleveland Medical Center and UH Ahuja Medical Center.
