University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital has partnered with Nationwide Children’s Hospital to form one of Ohio’s largest pediatric heart programs, The Congenital Heart Collaborative – a unique care delivery model that provides expanded access to high quality, comprehensive care for acquired and congenital heart disease, from fetus to adulthood.

“Our affiliation with Nationwide Children’s, a nationally and internationally recognized state-of-the-art center for clinical, surgical and interventional therapies for congenital heart disease, provides more options for families,” says Patricia DePompei, RN, MSN, President of UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. “We have completely integrated clinically, operationally and from a quality perspective so that the full bench of expertise and experience can be leveraged for the best outcomes.”

Nationwide Children’s is currently ranked 11th in the nation for pediatric heart and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report and brings new expertise to Northeast Ohio families. This coupled with UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital’s expertise in neonatology -- ranked No. 3 in the nation – and maternal fetal medicine allows the team to identify congenital heart defects before birth and plan for care as early as possible.

For Northeast Ohio patients and families, the new partnership means:

  • Access to the combined and extensive expertise of the most advanced heart specialists and heart surgeons in the nation
  • The most advanced technology and leading research to diagnose and treat congenital and acquired heart disease – from mild to the most severe – in children and adults
  • National leading quality outcomes and the outstanding national reputations of both UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Nationwide Children’s Hospital
  • Full integration with University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, with adult heart surgery experts available for consultations and access to the latest technology and techniques

“This partnership ensures that our patients and families have access to a system of superior quality, coordinated care from specialists who are highly proficient in cardiac and cardiothoracic procedures, from the most common to the most complex,” says DePompei.
