Distinguished Programs
UH is committing institutional resources to support the development of distinguished programs, such as Centers of Excellence and Harrington Discovery Institute, to advance the science of health, translate scientific discoveries and impact the standard of care for our community and world.
To achieve its vision of advancing the science of health, University Hospitals Health System (UH) is committing institutional investments to support the development of Centers of Excellence (COE) as a mechanism to align research activities with clinical excellence, promote team science, and impact standard of care for our community and world. University Hospitals Research and Education Institute Centers of Excellences are as follows:

Center for Neurodegenerative Disorders (CENDIVE)
Discovery of basic mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders and development of early stage pharmaceutical development
Center for Translational Neuro-Oncology (CETNO)
Strong in areas of intra-tumoral heterogeneity and the lack of specific biomarker responses
Center for Integrated and Novel Approaches in Vascular-Metabolic Disease (CINEMA)
Advancing the understanding & treatment of cardiac / vascular complications of metabolic disease
Harrington Discovery Institute
The Harrington Discovery Institute at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, part of The Harrington Project for Discovery & Development, is an international initiative that helps translate scientific discoveries into medicines that benefit society. Its programs address a range of disease areas and therapeutic needs, with an emphasis on unmet needs. Through funding and drug development expertise, we help bridge the critical gap that exists within drug development. The Harrington Family supported the launch of the Harrington Project in 2012.
Seidman Cancer Center
University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center is involved in the discovery of new forms of prevention, diagnosis and treatment and many research efforts are focused on "developmental therapeutics" – quickly translating scientific findings into the highest quality patient care. Thus, UH Seidman Cancer Center patients are among the first in the nation to benefit from the newest investigative cancer treatments—many of which are not available outside a research setting. Through our affiliation with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, University Hospitals also provides both onsite and online continuing medical education.
