The mission of the Division of Forensic Psychiatry at University Hospitals is to contribute to the field of forensic psychiatry through excellence in education, practice and research. Through collaboration with Case Western Reserve University, we aim to understand the interaction between mental disorder and criminal behavior.
Our individual research interests include:

Research Highlights
Manfred Guttmacher Award
In 2020, Susan Hatters Friedman, MD, was awarded the Manfred Guttmacher Award “for an outstanding contribution to the literature of forensic psychiatry” from the American Psychiatric Association/ American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law for the book ‘Family Murder: Pathologies of Love and Hate’.
Co-editor and Author of Forensic Textbook
In 2022, Susan Hatters Friedman, MD served as a co-editor of ‘Malpractice and Liability in Psychiatry’ along with Peter Ash, MD, and Richard Frierson, MD. Multiple UH/ Case forensic faculty members authored chapters in this comprehensive textbook.
