UH Doctors Find Source of Girl's Intermittent Abdominal Pain

For more than a year, Anna experienced consistent abdominal pain with no explanation. After numerous tests elsewhere, doctors recommended a procedure to remove a mass in her pelvis. It was in the operating room there that the surgical team noticed Anna’s swollen kidney, which led Anna to a consultation with UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s pediatric urologist Jessica Hannick, MD, MSc.

“Dr. Hannick has been nothing short of amazing. She really listens and believes my pain. She took an ultimate course of action to get me better,” Anna says.

Dr. Hannick determined a pyeloplasty surgery would correct the root cause of Anna’s intermittent pain. A successful surgery, unfortunately followed by kidney stones and more procedures, made for a rollercoaster ride to recovery.

“It’s been six months since surgery and for the first time in a long time I feel like myself,” Anna says. “I am extremely thankful to Dr. Hannick and the rest of the University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s urology team for playing a part in restoring my health and happiness.”
