Why Choose the UH Diabetes and Metabolic Care Center?

We seek to empower people living with diabetes, obesity and related conditions to live longer, higher-quality lives through meeting optimal self-management outcomes. As the rates of diabetes and obesity continue to rise in the United States, we are dedicated to addressing this epidemic head-on by utilizing the latest research, evidence-based practice treatments, ongoing clinical monitoring and education.

Using a multidisciplinary, team-based approach, we join the person living with diabetes, obesity or related conditions to meet them where they are and set up a plan for success. Our diabetes and obesity experts also work closely with the individual’s primary care team and specialists to make recommendations regarding care.

One of the main goals of our center is to contribute to the understanding of these conditions and seek solutions to improve lives through a robust, multidisciplinary research program. Our team of clinical scientists seeks to learn more about the physiology/pathology, treatment, prevention, education, interventions and optimization of outcomes of diabetes and related conditions, with the patient perspective in mind. Importantly, we aim to address health equity and minimize disparities in diabetes care and outcomes. Our scientists and providers in turn are able to translate this knowledge into better care.

Conditions and Treatments

Our team provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for the full range of diabetes and obesity-related conditions. Disease management include continuous glucose monitoring, insulin and medications, and nutrition and exercise recommendations.

Multidisciplinary Care

Because diabetes and obesity can affect many other areas of your health, our team brings together experts in multiple specialties to help prevent and manage related conditions. These specialty areas include:
