Hearing Impairment Therapy
Speech-Language Pathologists Help Children with Hearing Loss Improve Listening Skills and Learn to Talk
At UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, specially trained speech-language pathologists provide aural rehabilitation for children with hearing loss and/or cochlear implants. Therapy focuses on helping these children develop their listening and spoken language skills to optimize communication with others. Parents are provided with coaching and support, learning strategies to help facilitate their child’s skill development outside of the therapy clinic. Throughout the child’s rehabilitation, the speech-language pathologist works closely with other members of the child’s treatment team which may include an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) physician, audiologist, or other members of the Cochlear Implant Team.
