Comprehensive Clinic for Children with Spina Bifida
The Spina Bifida Program (Myelo Clinic) at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital offers a comprehensive team approach to care for infants, children, adolescents and young adults with spina bifida, or myelodysplasia, and other neural tube defects. Our collaborative approach brings pediatric specialists together to develop an individualized treatment plan to best meet each individual child and family’s needs. Families will also be linked to the Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH) programs.
What to Expect
A typical visit includes an evaluation by the medical specialists in our multidisciplinary team which includes physicians and advance practice nurses from gastroenterology, orthopedics, developmental behavioral pediatrics, neurosurgery, urology and neuropsychology. The team will then develop an individualized plan of care for your child, which will be shared with the family. If additional tests or procedures are needed, our team will coordinate all arrangements. This approach leads to a more organized and thorough approach to the care plan.
