Working Together to Manage High-Risk Pregnancy
Maternal fetal medicine care focuses on the needs of mother and baby during all phases of high-risk pregnancy. The highly specialized maternal fetal medicine team at University Hospitals is uniquely qualified to minimize potential complications during high-risk pregnancies. They work closely with the newborn care specialists at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital to protect mother and baby during the pregnancy and delivery, as well as following birth.
Seamless Care for Mothers and Newborns on One Campus
It is common for babies of high-risk pregnancy to need specialized newborn care. These complications often are identified for mother and baby prior to delivery.
Maternal fetal medicine and neonatal specialists work with families to educate them about these complications and the level of care that likely will be needed, helping to ease anxiety and prepare families for what’s to come. During and immediately following delivery, both teams will be standing by in the event advanced medical treatment is needed for either mother or baby.
This is one of the many advantages of UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital being just steps away from our Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.
