Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)

Trauma continues to be the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the 1 to 44 age group, killing more young Americans than cancer, heart disease, and stroke combined. Trauma claims a life every six minutes and is responsible for serious disability every three seconds, yet more people are surviving critical injuries than ever before. This is due to the training of expert trauma care providers with advanced trauma skills.

Class sizes are limited (24 students).
Fees include course manual(s), accompanying written materials, continental breakfast and lunch both days.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis with submission of complete registration and payment.

Preference is given to University Hospital Cleveland Medical Center employees.

University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is pleased to coordinate this professional educational opportunity for trauma surgeons and other physicians caring for the injured. Nurses, emergency medical technicians, and other non-physician providers may audit the course.

Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS®)

ATLS® is the standard of care identified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for physicians who intervene with trauma victims at all levels of clinical practice. ATLS® utilizes a systematic, concise methodology for assessment and initial stabilization of the multiple-injured patient. Lectures and interactive practicums address initial assessment, airway and ventilation, shock, thoracic trauma, abdominal trauma, head trauma, spine and spinal cord trauma, musculoskeletal trauma, burn and cold injuries, trauma of pediatric and obstetric patients, and transfer considerations. ALTS® courses are presented in conjunction with the ACS Ohio Committee on Trauma.
