Curriculum Overview
The University Hospital Geauga Family Medicine program is a three-year program open to 12 residents in a 4-4-4 structure. The family medicine residents obtain experience in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. University Hospitals Geauga Family Medicine program has multiple rotations within the system to provide experiences in ambulatory pediatrics, inpatient pediatrics, behavioral medicine, community medicine and longitudinal geriatrics.
An enhanced feature of our program is training in our UH critical access hospitals, which includes pediatric training at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s for rotations in Inpatient Pediatric Medicine, Newborn Nursery and Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
A unique aspect of our Family Medicine program is that we offer and pay for an online Integrative Medicine fellowship through the University of Arizona. The fellowship is completed during the 2nd and 3rd years of residency.
Our Family Medicine program has a strong integration of neuromusculoskeletal medicine/osteopathic manipulative medicine in all training years, including quarterly OMM hands on conferences with several osteopathic faculty members.
The Family Medicine program provides resident opportunities for individualized areas of concentration utilizing all UH system-training sites. Our comprehensive approach allows the residents the flexibility to be prepared for any Family Medicine setting or to move on to fellowships. The residents have the ability to design their electives to enhance their professional interests and future goals while still attaining a quality education.
The program features a vital research component and incorporates many scholarly activities including osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) research projects and case presentations.
We have two Family Medicine Practice Clinics where the residents develop their own panel of patients with faculty supervision.
We have dedicated didactics on Wednesday afternoon that includes faculty led lectures, Board Review, Journal Club, and 2 skills lab each year.
