Our experienced multidisciplinary team offers advanced, comprehensive care for patients throughout the entire transplant journey – from initial evaluation and time on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waiting list, through the organ transplant experience and a lifetime of follow-up care. Our transplant team brings their expertise to all of our organ transplant programs, which include: adult heart, kidney, liver, lung, pancreas, and pediatric kidney transplant.
The University Hospitals Department of Pharmacy Services offers a variety of educational programs to help train the next generation of pharmacists. Our training programs provide pharmacy students, interns and residents with hands-on experience providing pharmacy services and patient care within a health-system hospital setting.
Pharmacy Residency Program
The purpose of this program is to build on experiences gained during a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, prepare graduates for specialized practice in transplant pharmacy, and help residents develop the knowledge, skills, and clinical leadership to care for transplant patients and living donors.
Residents will be exposed to patients as they prepare to receive a transplant, during the perioperative phase of transplant, and in the postoperative phase of care as they sustain survival of their transplanted organ. The resident will care for patients with the multidisciplinary team which may include: transplant surgeons, nephrologists, hepatologists, pulmonologists, cardiologists, advanced practice providers, nurse coordinators, dieticians, social workers, medical residents, fellows, pharmacy specialists, and pharmacy students.
The PGY2 Solid Organ Transplant Pharmacy Residency is a 12-month commitment designed to provide postgraduate experience in transplant pharmacotherapy. Graduating PGY2s will be prepared for a role in inpatient and/or outpatient settings caring for a variety of solid organ transplant recipients and living donors.
