The Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Gastroenterology Fellowship Programs offer three to five fellowship positions a year. Applications for Clinical and Research Fellowship tracks are accepted only through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Required Documents for Application

In addition to the application the following documents are required:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Personal statement
  • USMLE scores
  • Dean's letter
  • Medical school transcript
  • Three letters of recommendation (one of the letters must come from the residency program director or department chief)
  • Photograph

Application Dates for Gastroenterology Fellowship Program

The application season opens on July 15, and applications are accepted until August 31. We accept applications from foreign medical school graduates as long as they have completed a U.S.-accredited internal medicine residency program. Applicants with J-1 visas may apply. The exception to this is the four-year research track fellowship which is funded by a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant and is only open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. The division does not sponsor H1-B visas.

Three- and Four-Year Fellowships

Interviews for the three- and four-year fellowships are held in September and October. Match results are released in early December.

Sivak Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship Application

The Sivak Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship application should be made through the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) website.

Documentation Requirements

Documentation requirements are the same as for the clinical/research fellowships and the same policy regarding visa holders is followed. The deadline for applications is set by ASGE. Interviews are held between the months of April and June. Match results are available in July.
