UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute Vascular Medicine Fellowship

The University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute Vascular Medicine Fellowship is a one year program which will provide comprehensive training in the care of patients with vascular disease. Trainees completing the Vascular Medicine Fellowship will be eligible for the American Board of Vascular Medicine (ABVM) certification examination in general vascular medicine and the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) examination.

The Vascular Medicine fellow will work closely with nationally renowned faculty in the Vascular Center of UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center, and other UH facilities.

The fellow will be exposed to a broad spectrum of common and uncommon arterial, venous and lymphatic disorders. Core clinical rotations will include the inpatient consultative service (intensive exposure to venous thromboembolism including work on the pulmonary embolism response team, anticoagulation management, hypercoagulable states, lower extremity wounds), outpatient vascular medicine clinic (intensive exposure to peripheral artery disease, chronic venous disease, venous thromboembolism, wound care, and rare vascular diseases including fibromuscular dysplasia and genetic arteriopathies), vascular laboratory (focus on study interpretation and hands-on scanning), vascular intervention, and vascular surgery. Additional rotations can be customized to the fellow’s interests.

The fellow has opportunity to participate in a mentored research project as part of the program. Participation in the multidisciplinary cardiovascular conferences and Vascular Center didactics of UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute is required.

Program Dates and Duration

  • Application deadline is December 6, 2024.
  • Interviews will be held in January 2025.
  • Program start date will be July 1, 2025.
