One-year Training Program With a Focus on Advanced Heart Failure

University Hospitals, in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University, offers a unique one-year non-accredited training program for BC/BE internal medicine residency graduates who are interested in exposure to fundamentals of cardiology with a special focus on care of patients with advanced heart failure (HF). Special emphasis will be placed on management of patients with Stage C-D HF, consultative cardiology, and ICU cardiology including acutely decompensated HF and cardiogenic shock. There will be significant opportunity to be involved in scholarly activities and research. Fellows will have access to the standard learning and lecture curriculum offered to general and advanced cardiology fellows at the UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute.

Trainees who choose to pursue this fellowship have traditionally done so as a stepping stone to matching in cardiovascular disease fellowship. In recognition of this, we will provide you intensive coaching on CVD fellowship application preparation, CV and essay writing, and interviewing skills.

A stipend, along with benefits and malpractice insurance are offered. Multiple moonlighting opportunities exist. The program cannot accept applications from J-1 visa holders at this time.

The program is extremely competitive with approximately 80 applicants per year for 2-4 slots offered.
