Physical Therapy Residency Program in Orthopedics

The University Hospitals Physical Therapy Residency Program in Orthopedics is a full-time, 18-month program comprised of 11 monthly modules with didactic and lab components. Each module will be taught by a clinical specialist and subject matter expert. Electives and other extended learning opportunities will be available, including but not limited to:

  • Manual Therapy
  • Sports
  • Concussion
  • Vestibular
  • Neuro for the ortho therapist
  • Pain science
  • Pelvic floor
  • Performing Arts

The resident will be given the opportunity to develop an autonomous clinical practice with built-in mentorship from clinical faculty, while developing skills in professionalism, teaching and research through our relationship with Cleveland State University. The resident will develop a research project that will culminate in a presentation at a local, state or national conference. Knowledge and skills will be assessed through midterm and final exams, both written and practical.

The program will not only help prepare the resident for the Orthopedic Certified Specialist (OCS) exam, these experiences will help develop the professional skills needed to be both a clinical specialist and a quality educator.

  • 9 FAAOMPT/CMT/C-OMPTs
  • 3 McKenzie certified clinicians (MDTs)
  • 3 certified strength and conditioning specialists
  • 3 certified hand therapists

Requirements for Admission

Residency candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Ohio licensed physical therapist
  • American Physical Therapy Association member (strongly recommended)
