About UH Samaritan Medical Center
UH Samaritan Medical Center is a 55-bed, full-service community hospital serving the residents of Ashland, Mansfield, Loudonville and the surrounding communities. Our medical staff includes more than 250 highly trained providers in over 30 medical and surgical specialties. We are accredited by DNV Healthcare, Inc.
History of UH Samaritan Medical Center
Samaritan Hospital was given to the city of Ashland in 1912 by local philanthropists Jesse Lewis Clark and his wife Mary. Their decision to build the hospital was inspired by a Sunday school lesson about the Good Samaritan. The couple believed Ashland needed “a hospital where no sick person would ever be refused care.”
Over the years, the hospital expanded into a health system that included an urgent care facility and satellite locations throughout Ashland County that offer access to radiology and laboratory services in addition to primary and specialty care.
In 2015, Samaritan Hospital and its affiliated locations joined University Hospitals, becoming UH Samaritan Medical Center.
Identifying and Addressing the Needs of Our Communities
As part of our commitment to the Northeast Ohio community, UH identifies the most pressing health needs of each community we serve through a periodic community health needs assessment (CHNA) for each UH hospital facility. Learn more about the most recent UH Samaritan Medical Center CHNA.
