Patient Resources
University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Ahuja Center for Women & Children offers a wealth of resources for our families, including access to specialists in early childhood development and pediatric behavioral health. Our comprehensive services and educational resources give parents the tools they need to help their child thrive – physically, socially and emotionally.
HealthySteps Program
UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Ahuja Center for Women & Children in MidTown is the only pediatric practice in Northeast Ohio that offers the HealthySteps program.
HealthySteps is an evidence-based pediatric primary care initiative aimed at improving the health, well-being and school readiness of babies and toddlers. It is available for UH Rainbow families with children ages 0 – 3 years old.
Families participating in HealthySteps will work with an early developmental specialist and their child’s pediatrician, who will provide individualized strategies and resources to help that child grow socially, emotionally and behaviorally. Topics covered with HealthySteps include:
- Developmental milestones
- Social-emotional development
- Behavior
- Parenting
- Early learning
- Early intervention services
- Specialty referrals
Findings indicate that participating in the program results in more timely and regular pediatric health care, higher vaccination rates, improved child and family well-being, earlier identification and intervention for developmental delays, increased patient satisfaction, and lower healthcare costs.
Behavioral Health Education
UH Rainbow families have access to the Rainbow Family Fundamentals program, a series of brief educational presentations on common children’s behavioral health topics. The behavioral health team at the UH Rainbow Ahuja Center for Women & Children educates families on child development, identify disruptions in social, emotional and behavioral development, and teach parents how to encourage positive child behavior.
The following topics are addressed in this program:
- Baby Social-Emotional Health
- Child Development
- Positive Parent-Child Interaction for Young Children
- Managing Disruptive Behavior
- Rewarding Positive Behavior
- Identifying and Managing Anxiety
- Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Childhood Trauma
- Adolescents and Adolescence
Parents interested in discussing any of these topics in more detail should speak with their primary care provider to be connected with a clinician on the behavioral health team.
