Office Clerical Assistance
Minimum age: 15
Monday – Friday, between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; hours and locations vary as available. Duties may include filing, collating, copying, phone dispatch, computer data entry, preparing mailings, etc. Examples of department/location areas include Human Resources, Central Transport, Health Education, Foundation.

Dispatch/Escort Desk
Minimum age: 15
Monday – Friday, 8 – 12 a.m. or 12 – 4 p.m. Take calls at front desk from nursing areas needing transporter, lab deliveries, etc.; mostly sitting job for someone with good phone skills.

Emergency Department Information & Triage
Minimum age: 18 or at the discretion of manager
Sunday – Saturday, 8 – 12 a.m. , 12 – 4 p.m., 4 – 8 p.m., 8 – midnight. Provide friendly welcome and information to patients and visitors in the Emergency Department. Enhance guest relation and initiate registration to Triage Area. Provide non-medical assistance to staff.

Gift Shop
Minimum age: 15 (18 for Cashier duties)
Sunday – Saturday; during Gift Shop hours. Assist stocking shelves, pricing, cleaning, cashier.

Kent and Streetsboro Medical Arts Buildings
Minimum age: 18
Monday – Friday, 8 – 12 a.m. or 12 – 4 p.m. Kent Medical Arts Building: welcome and direct patients and visitors at lobby reception desk; Streetsboro: sort and deliver mail, assist staff with clerical needs and deliveries.

Lifeline Installer
Minimum age: 18
Install Lifeline units in patients’ homes. A program of the Auxiliary of UH Portage Medical Center. Training provided through the Auxiliary.

Main Lobby Information Desk Receptionist
Minimum age: 18 or at discretion of manager
Sunday – Saturday, 8 – 12 a.m., 12 – 4 p.m. or 4 – 8 p.m. Greet visitors; provide patient information in person and by phone; direct visitors in the hospital to various departments for testing and visiting patients; some computer skills required.

Nursing Unit
Minimum age: 17
Sunday – Saturday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Flexible hours. Assist with patient needs by stocking cupboards, talking with patients, answering call lights, running errands, etc; requires attending additional training class.

Outpatient Surgery Assistant
Minimum age: 18
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Assist outpatient surgery staff with support services. Assist with admitting, preparing carts, stocking shelves, etc.

Pastoral Care Assistant
Minimum age: 18
Sunday – Saturday, flexible hours. Under the supervision and training of the Pastoral Office, visit patients and provide spiritual support as needed.

Radiology Department Patient Assistant
Minimum age: 16
Monday – Friday, 8 – 12 a.m., 12 – 4 p.m., 4 – 8 p.m. Assist patients with inquiries, escort patients to dressing rooms for procedures, miscellaneous duties.

Musical Arts Team
Minimum age: 17
Flexible schedule. Positively impact the patient/visitor experience through live instrumental music in designated areas of the hospital. Musical Arts Team volunteers should not only be excellent musicians, but also have a desire to give the gift of their music as a service to others.

Medical Arts Building Reception Desk
Minimum age: 18
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 12 or 12 – 4 p.m. Greet visitors and direct to appropriate offices/departments. Assist with transport of patients/visitors as needed.

Surgical Waiting Room
Minimum age: 18
Mon – Fri, 7 a.m. – 12 p.m or 12 – 4 p.m. Maintain communication between patients going into surgery, their families, the physician, and the operating room staff. Provide a pleasant atmosphere for waiting families.

Transporter and Escort – Main Hospital
Transporter – Professional Center Endoscopy Department
Minimum age: 15
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 12 or 12 – 4 p.m. Main Hospital: Transport patients to be discharged; assist visitors to designated departments; deliver mail and flowers to patient rooms.
Professional Center: Transport patients discharged from outpatient surgery; assist in clean bed-making.

Volunteers at Your Service
Minimum age: 15
Need: Monday – Friday, 4 – 8 p.m. (flexible evening hours) and weekends. Volunteer answers “Volunteers at Your Service” phone line and is on call to nursing units for patient discharge, lab deliveries, pharmacy needs, etc.

Veterans Visitation Program
Minimum age: 21
Flexible schedule. Visit patient floors to recognize veterans for their service. Provide resources and opportunity for veterans to share their stories.
