Volunteers deliver the support necessary to ensure that UH Parma Medical Center continues to provide excellent, personalized care. Our program promotes community wellness and also raises funds for the benefit of the hospital's healing environment.
Like all the team members at UH Parma Medical Center, our volunteers ascribe to a high standard of personal care and service with a dedicated purpose and mission.
Our Purpose at UH Parma Medical Center
The volunteer team at UH Parma Medical Center works to:
- Give volunteer service to the hospital
- Help in our communities to promote greater interest in the hospital and better understanding of its services, needs, aims and challenges
- Raise funds through approved ways to benefit hospital
Our Mission at UH Parma Medical Center
At UH Parma Medical Center, the mission of our volunteer program is to furnish the hospital staff with the helping hands and support necessary to provide excellent, personalized healthcare.
Observation Program
The observation program allows individuals interested in a healthcare career to shadow a UH Parma employee to learn more about the profession in a hospital setting.
Vial of Life
This program, offered through the Parma Auxiliary, provides life-saving medical information for EMS in case of an emergency in the home.

Junior Volunteer Service Areas
Here is brief description of our Junior Volunteer Service areas. As you are completing the application, think about what area of volunteering might interest you. Return your application to Gerri Novicky at Geralyn.Novicky@UHhospitals.org with your choice of service area for volunteering. We will make every effort to put you in that area.
You must obtain a two step TB test at a physician's office and a flu vaccine during the flu season. Your name badge and uniform must also be obtained before volunteering. The uniform cost is $10.
Comfort Care – Visit non-isolation patients and provide comfort items such as stress balls, pillows, rosaries, prayer books, etc. and diversional activities like crossword puzzles and word searches. Help is need weekday evenings and also on Saturday mornings.
Gift Shop – Stock shelves, price items, assist Gift Shop customers with locating and ringing up items for purchase.
Messenger/storeroom – Pull orders from Storeroom and deliver as needed to different areas of the hospital. Put together Mouth and Central Line Kits as needed. Must be 16 years old.
Rehab Unit – Provide social and leisure activities to engage rehab patients in out-of-bed activities. Help is needed weekdays after school and on the weekends.
Visitor Ambassador Service – Greet and/or escort patients and visitors to designated departments of the hospital. Provide wheelchair assistance as necessary to patients and visitors entering the building. Retrieve wheel chairs from other areas as necessary. Must be 16 years old.
