Nurse Staffing Guidelines Ensure Patient-Centered Care at UH Elyria
University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center is committed to providing the highest quality and safest care to our patients. UH Elyria Medical Center follows the Staffing Guidelines set by the American Nurses Association, Principles for Nurse Staffing, American Nurses Publishing, Washington, D.C., 1999. These guidelines ensure each patient receives the personalized level of care we strive to provide, and include:
- Nursing units are staffed with highly skilled registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and patient care attendants.
- Each unit has written a staffing plan developed to accommodate a projected average daily patient census.
- The patient census is reviewed each shift by a unit nurse leader. Staffing is adjusted as needed to meet patient needs.
- Nursing supervisors are on duty at all times to assist with adjusting nursing unit staffing when unexpected fluctuations in patient census or need occur.
For more information about these guidelines, please speak with the nurse manager on the unit or contact the Nursing Office at 440-329-7562.
