Peripheral Artery Disease - A Serious Condition You May Have Never Heard About
December 10, 2021
Millions of Americans suffer with this common circulatory disease, but many go undiagnosed or don’t experience any symptoms. Peripheral artery disease (PAD) occurs when fatty deposits form plaque in the vessels that carry blood to the legs or feet. This buildup restricts or blocks blood flow, depriving your muscles of adequate oxygen and nutrients. If PAD becomes severe, critical limb ischemia (CLI) may occur. CLI is defined as the presence of pain at rest, ulcer or gangrene. If not treated promptly, it can lead to disability and even the loss of a foot or leg to amputation. Learn more about PAD, including the causes, warning signs, and range of treatment options available.
