Seizures or Spells in Babies and Children
August 05, 2021
A seizure can occur in a baby or child when the brain, which uses small amounts of electricity to tell other parts of the brain and the body what to do, experiences a sudden large burst of electricity for some unknown reason. This interrupts the brain’s normal activities, causing a change in behavior and level of alertness. This event, sometimes referred to as a spell, is a seizure. The child does not feel any pain or discomfort. We will discuss how to identify seizures, the signs to look for, when to see a pediatric neurologist and how to prepare for the appointment – questions you can ask.
