Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD) Support Group
Tuesday, April 21, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is an uncommon and often underdiagnosed vascular disease that causes narrowing, aneurysms and dissections in the medium-sized arteries of the body. In an effort to educate patients and provide a forum in which they can learn from each other, UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute offers a support group, held quarterly at UH Ahuja Medical Center. Led by Heather Gornik, MD, Co-Director of the UH Vascular Center and Director of the UH FMD Program, these gatherings include patients, their families and members of the UH FMD care team.
Sessions focus on various topics related to FMD, including updates on the latest research, followed by an open discussion. The support group partners with the FMD Society of America (FMDSA) and Ms. Pamela Mace, Executive Director of the organization, who is also an FMD patient.
“This is such an amazing opportunity for myself and our local patient community,” said Ms. Mace. “We’re blessed to have a physician like Dr. Gornik caring for us. Not only is she a world renowned expert on FMD, she is the most compassionate doctor I have ever met. To meet with her outside of a clinical appointment is a privilege. For so many patients, it decreases their anxiety and fear.”
