Purpose of the Study

The purpose of the study is to identify environmental factors, dietary factors, genetic factors, and other factors that contribute to the development of Barrett's Esophagus and esophageal cancer in both individuals, and particular families and to screen first-degree family members (parents, siblings, and children) of an affected individual with upper endoscopy. This study will also develop new test for helping doctors diagnose and manage these diseases.

Who Can Participate

Participants 18 years and older who are or have a family member that has been diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus and/or esophageal cancer, OR have gastroesophageal reflux symptoms for which physicians recommend an upper endoscopy to detect Barrett's esophagus, or are having an upper endoscopy for other symptoms may be eligible for this study.
