This regional access to trauma services has resulted in improved outcomes for thousands of patients.
Level I Trauma Center
UH Cleveland Medical Center Trauma Center holds Level I verification status from the American College of Surgeons (ACS), which indicates we provide comprehensive trauma care according to nationally recognized standards for every aspect of injury care. Level I is the highest level of trauma care recognized by the ACS.
What is a Level I Trauma Center?
A verified Level I trauma center provides 24-hour in-house coverage by general surgeons as well as around-the-clock access to specialists such as orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, plastic surgeons and others.
A Level I trauma center also acts as a referral resource for the surrounding communities and has to meet volume requirements for the number of critically injured patients it treats.
The staff at our level I trauma center are leaders in the field of trauma care. Teaching and research efforts are a key component of the trauma program, and our team is continually striving toward innovation in trauma care.
Level III Trauma Center
While smaller than a Level I trauma center, our Level III trauma centers have emergency physicians and general surgeons available around the clock to care for trauma patients. A level III trauma center has the ability to care for most injuries, but in the case of very severe trauma, a patient can be transported to our Level I trauma center for more advanced care.
Our Level III Trauma Centers:
