Providing Expert Diagnosis and Care for Brain and Optic Nerve Diseases
As part of University Hospitals Eye Institute’s Center for Oculoplastics and Neuro-Ophthalmology, the neuro-ophthalmology program is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of ophthalmologists, neurologists, and neurosurgeons, all dedicated to advancing the field of neuro-ophthalmology and caring for brain and optic nerve diseases.
Neuro-ophthalmology focuses on the diagnosis and management of adults and children with brain and optic nerve diseases that affect the vision, including:
- Cranial dystonias
- Double vision
- Eye movement problems
- Eyelid tumors
- Headaches
- Hemifacial spasms
- Orbital diseases of the eye
- Orbital inflammations
- Pupil abnormalities
- Sudden loss of vision
Special studies include eye movement recordings of complex ocular motility disturbances, visual field testing, and neuropsychological evaluations of the visual consequences of structural and degenerative brain disorders. Working closely with UH Neurological Institute the neuro-ophthalmology program offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services.
The Neuro-Ophthalmology team performs procedures that include:
- Botulinum(Botox)injections for the treatment of cranial dystonias and hemifacial spasms
- Endoscopic surgery
- Orbital surgery
- Orbital tumor surgery
