Forehead Reduction and Hairline Lowering Surgery
The facial plastic surgeons at University Hospitals have the expertise and experience to perform a variety of cosmetic surgery procedures to improve the appearance of the forehead.
Procedures we offer include:
Reduction of Forehead Prominence
Prominence of the brow and forehead is a result of your genetics and development. This can be from the growth of the sinus below the bone, thickening of the bone itself or a combination of both. It is for this reason that surgical techniques to reduce brow or forehead prominence are very patient-specific. With minor contouring measured in just millimeters, we can achieve favorable results with simple mechanical burring of the bone with a drill through incisions hidden in the hair, brow or eyelid. More significant reductions with larger frontal sinus cavities generally require a “setback” of the forehead bone in which a portion of the bone is removed and then replaced once the underlying sinus has been reduced and reshaped.
Forehead and Brow Augmentation
We are able to augment and increase the prominence of the forehead and brow through various techniques, generally, through the implantation of some form of material. This material could be your own fat removed through liposuction or it may be a prefabricated implant that is custom-created for you during the pre-surgical planning process.
Forehead Shortening
When dealing with a long vertical height to the forehead, we offer a shortening procedure to achieve forehead reduction. We often combine this with forehead contouring as described above at the same time or in subsequent procedures. A favorable height for the forehead is 5 to 6 cm in length from the eyebrow to the hairline. Generally, we can achieve up to 2 cm of forehead height reduction with a skin excision technique combined with advancement of the scalp. This combination can achieve both brow lift and hairline advancement.
