Medically Supervised Weight Loss for Bariatric Surgery
The UH Nutritional Health & Bariatric Surgery Center offers medically supervised weight loss groups to assist patients in meeting the preoperative, medically supervised nutrition requirement mandated by insurance companies prior to weight loss surgery. You must be registered with our Bariatric Surgery program to participate.

Zoom Group Medically Supervised Weight Loss
Your insurance company has required that you complete 3 – 6 months of medically supervised weight loss.
You must attend 1 class per month that is 21 days from the previous class. Only 1 class per month will count. You will need to make sure that you do not miss a month as some insurances want them to be consecutive and may require that you start the classes again if you miss a month. Please be aware that all Classes will be locked out at 10 minutes after they start. If you are not logged in, you will not be admitted into the class and you will need to plan to attend a different class.
In order receive credit for the class, you will need to send an email to the dietitian teaching the class with the following information the day before class:
- Your full name
- Date of birth
- Current weight
- What you are doing for exercise, how many minutes and how many times per week. If you are not currently exercising, tell us what you plan to start doing this month. If you do not provide all of this information, you exercise will documented as “NONE”.
- You must be present for the class and with your video on.
- You will need to find a quiet place in which to connect to the class. No multitasking. No driving. You will need to devote your full attention for the class.
- Ten to fifteen minutes before the class begins, please log in so that you can trouble shoot any problems. Please private message the dietitian your full name and date of birth for roll call.
Before you can attend a Zoom class, you will need to download the free Zoom Cloud Meeting app to your device from the Google Play Store or the App Store. Once the app is downloaded you should be able to open the class link.
