Esophageal Disease
Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication TIF
Transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) is a treatment for safely and effectively treating chronic acid reflux disease. TIF is a 45-minute long non-invasive, incisionless procedure performed in the OR. The procedure is completed through the mouth (transorally) and reconstructs the valve that will prevent stomach acid from irritating the esophagus. Because there are no incisions, recovery time can be much shorter than traditional surgery. Patients typically spend one night in the hospital and follow a liquid diet and soft foods for a few weeks. Most are able to resume normal activities within only a few days.
