Orientation – New residents participate in an orientation program that includes basic anatomy and pathophysiology lectures and instruction in clinical exam basics. Click here for a sample orientation schedule.
Basic Science Clinical Series course books – The full series is provided to each new resident during orientation.
Four weeks of vacation – Vacation may be taken in 4 week long blocks or divided into separate blocks of days (only at the VA).
Departmental and Hospital Library – The department maintains its own library consisting of major ophthalmic texts, videos, path slides, and Audio-Digest CDs. All the major ophthalmology journals, both past and present, are available. The hospital also has a Core Library, through which any journal articles or books can be obtained through OhioLink.
Insurance – Health, Dental, Life, and Disability insurance are provided through the hospital. Please see the Graduate Medical Education (GME) website for further details.
Case Western Reserve University facilities – Residents are given full access to the Case Western Reserve facilities, including all on-campus libraries and buildings, athletic facilities, e-mail accounts, and a virtual private network to access Case’s online resources.
Lab Coats – Two white coats are provided during the first year and each resident is eligible for 2 new white coats per year. The Department also provides a personalized embroidered white coat during the third year. Free cleaning for the white coats is provided by the hospital.
Scrubs – Scrubs are available free of charge at each site.
