Nurse Residency Program
At University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center (UHCMC), we believe that new graduate nurses benefit from actively participating in our customized Nurse Residency Program. As new nurses begin their professional careers with clinical support and mentoring, the Nurse Residency Program provides a transformative learning environment with multiple, rich opportunities to have meaningful peer group discussions.
In their first 15 months of professional nursing practice, nurse residents work towards a successful transition from education to practice, reflecting on their clinical experiences, as well as their professional interactions with patients, families and colleagues. During Nurse Residency Program day-long monthly sessions, the new nurses focus on such topics as the development of leadership skills, professional competencies, patient outcomes and bench marking quality indicators. They also develop and implement evidence-based practice projects, which contribute to the patient centered culture for which UHCMC is known.
The Nurse Residency Program, a formative learning experience, provides an opportunity to network, encourages accessing resources that will promote a patient and family engagement and reinforces the importance of being a member of a respected healthcare team.
