UH Samaritan Recognized as One of 100 Top Rural and Community Hospitals

ASHLAND, Ohio – University Hospitals (UH) Samaritan Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Rural & Community Hospitals for 2022. The Chartis Center for Rural Health, a leading provider of comprehensive advisory services and analytics to the health care industry, evaluated rural hospitals using a Hospital Strength INDEX™.

Drawing from publicly available data, the INDEX™ measures and monitors performance across a variety of eight areas impacting hospital operations and finance: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and financial efficiency.

The Chartis Center introduced the Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals recognition program in 2016. Over the past 12 years, the INDEX™ has become one of the hospital industry’s most comprehensive and objective rating of rural hospital performance.
