UH Portage Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center Ranked Top in Country

The UH Portage Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center team

At UH Portage Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center, specialists assist patients by helping to diagnose and mange care for a variety of wounds, including diabetic and neuropathic ulcers, pressure ulcers and atypical ulcers.

Generally, wounds that haven't healed in four weeks or more are considered to be chronic wounds; however, specialists can usually look at wounds and identify a course of treatment in less time. So, it's ideal to seek care as soon as you feel something might be wrong.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a state-of-the-art adjunct to the comprehensive wound care program. This treatment delivers high doses of oxygen to wounds, and fills the blood with enough oxygen to repair tissues, leading to faster healing times.

“When it comes to wound care, our Center is not just a good place to go in terms of access, but it's ranked one of the top places in the country to seek care,” emphasized Jared Storck, DO, Medical Director, UH Portage Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center.

Dr. Storck is responsible for the medical side of the program, and managing problematic wounds that may require a specialized approach. Over the last several years, the Center has carried prestigious awards, and is recognized as one of the best wound programs not only in Ohio but across the nation.

Recently, the Center earned the 2020 Healogics Presidents Circle Award. This highly respected award was only given to 16 out of 675 centers nationwide, signifying that UH Portage ranks in the top three percent among its peers.

The award recognizes teams who achieve excellence through exceeding target performance goals, impacting key results and demonstrating cultural beliefs. It is established to distinguish winners as the “best of the best” in patient wound care and hyperbaric oxygen treatment.

Dr. Storck said the reasoning behind this prestigious achievement is teamwork. “Our wonderful caregivers, especially our nurses, deserve so much credit,” he explained. “Most of our team members are local to Portage County, enjoy taking care of their community, and know how to get others motivated when it comes to providing the best patient care.”
