Care Team of Tomorrow

The Care Team of Tomorrow has provided an innovative way for the team of caregivers on Lerner Tower 7 to meet patient care needs during a time when it can be a challenge to recruit and retain enough Registered Nurses. Based on feedback from bedside nurses, the Care Team of Tomorrow was developed and out of it came various new caregiver roles and functions. Lerner Tower 7 was chosen as a pilot unit for this new model of care and implemented these new roles, including the Patient Experience Liaison, Multi-skilled Technician, Personal Hygiene Expert, Mobility Aide, Unit Coordinator, and Equipment Specialist. After implementing the roles, Lerner Tower 7 experienced a positive impact to the healthy work environment, along with a decrease in RN turnover. Due to the success of the pilot, the model is now being expanded to all med-surg units throughout the UH system.
