Labor and Delivery Services at UH Ahuja Medical Center
The Steve and Loree Potash Women & Newborn Center is a family-focused home for expectant mothers and newborns in the community.
Occupying an entire floor of the Ahuja Medical Center South Pavilion, the innovative Potash Women & Newborn Center serves as a dedicated home for expectant moms and babies. The center also houses the Danielle and Michael Weiner Maternity Suite, and the Richard Horvitz and Erica Hartman-Horvitz Special Care Nursery.
Designed to exceed the highest standards for quality, expert care while meeting the unique needs and delivery preferences of patients and families. From natural, drug-free births and midwife-assisted labor to births requiring advanced care, the Potash Women & Newborn Center accommodates a variety of birth experiences.
A family-focused home for expectant mothers and newborns, the center includes:
- Maternal-Fetal Medicine
-
Personalized prenatal and pregnancy care are critical steps toward ensuring the health and well-being of mom and baby, particularly for those with high-risk pregnancies. Through advanced prenatal diagnosis, genetic counseling and fetal interventions, UH’s maternal-fetal medicine team works to minimize potential complications and protect both mom and baby throughout all phases of a high-risk pregnancy.
- Labor and Delivery
-
Creating a birth plan is an empowering process for many expectant mothers. The labor and delivery suite accommodates a wide variety of preferred birthing options. UH caregivers are committed to enacting a patient’s birth plan but, should complications arise, families can rest assured knowing the onsite surgical suite can accommodate emergency caesarean deliveries as well as other surgical procedures.
- Postpartum Recovery
-
The birth of a child and the days immediately following are precious and private moments for families. The maternity suite was designed with the whole family in mind, with private rooms equipped for the postpartum stay of both mom and baby, as well as family. To support mom’s rest and recovery, the suite also includes a six-bay well baby nursery.
- Neonatal Care
-
Every baby is a miracle and, to ensure each has every chance of growing up healthy and well, the Neonatal Unit (level 2 special care neonatal unit) is equipped to care for premature and critically ill newborns. The unit is staffed by UH Rainbow neonatal specialists and includes 12 patient rooms, each with space for family to stay.
- Midwifery Services
-
For patients experiencing a low-risk pregnancy who envision a more natural and holistic birthing journey, University Hospitals’ certified nurse-midwives assist women through labor and delivery, in addition to guiding and supporting them during prenatal and postpartum care, offering a personalized experience to mothers and their babies.
