Division of Population Health
The Center for Emergency Medicine's Division of Population Health aims to improve the health of our local Cleveland community while, on a global level, partner with our international collaborators to provide training for humanitarian workers.
Current projects for the Division of Population Health
Disease Mapping
We are collaborating with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, Case Western Geospatial Health and Hazard Lab, Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth and local Federally Qualified Health Clinics (FQHC) in developing the Reportable Diseases Mapping Project (REDMAP) – a geospatial tool designed to identify high-risk, low-incidence areas of disease so public health programming can be efficiently targeted.
Humanitarian Training
Taught as mandatory core curriculum for the Global Health track in the Case Western Reserve University Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences, MPHP 540: “Operational Aspects of International Disaster Relief” is an intensive 5-day, 40-hour workshop providing training on the United Nations-based Cluster System deployed during international emergencies with the intention of strengthening local health systems to deal with natural and complex emergencies.
Women’s Health
We are developing programming in the ED to assure all women interested in contraception are linked to care.
HIV/Syphilis Screening
The HIV Testing and Care Collaborative (HIVTCC), a provider-initiated testing platform, collaborating between the Center for Emergency Medicine Division of Population Health, UH Division of Infectious Disease, UH Core Lab, Center for Emergency Medicine Division of Research, and Cuyahoga County Department of Health, which has increased ED screening for HIV by 1,300% since 2016.
Congenital Syphilis Screening
We are working with our colleagues in the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, OB/GYN, and infectious disease to increase awareness of the rise in congenital syphilis nationwide, and to utilize the ED for proactive screening opportunities.
